In this age of small-screen entertainment, it is heart-warming to see a number of people flying the flag for the pleasures of old-fashioned, communal, independent cinema in Cape Town. 

Princess Krotoa was a woman of many firsts – the first Khoi to be baptised, the first recorded mixed-race marriage at the Cape and an architect of the Afrikaans language. On 19 August her spirit was symbolically moved from its burial place at the Groote Kerk in Church Square to the Castle in a colourful ceremony, organised by the departments of defence and military veterans to celebrate women’s month.
