City traffic centre pilots longer Saturday hours

Sep 16, 2016

Gallows Hill Driving Licence Testing Centre in Somerset Road will remain open until 17:00 on 17 September, to test the feasibility of extended operating hours on Saturdays.

The centre is currently open until midday on Saturdays, offering learner and driving licence appointments, licence renewals, and traffic fine payments. It does not offer vehicle registration services or roadworthy testing.

“It’s no secret that many people dread visiting a driving licence testing centre,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith. “We are doing this trial run to test the feasibility of extending operating hours at Gallows Hill and, at the very least, reducing the stress of trying to get to the centre on a week day, which is difficult for many people.”

People should be in line by 15:30 so that they can be helped before the national eNatis system switches off at 17:00.
